Mastery Cards are used in the tactical combat resolution system. Each Mastery Card has 2 values - 1 at each end. As you can see from our
demo the player who lays the highest value wins the round. But the value you choose and lay can change depending on the value laid by your opponent.
For example, if you lay the 1 and your opponent lays 9, 10, 11 or 12 then your value of 1 changes to 13 and you win. But if your opponent lays 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 he has laid the higher value and you lose. If your opponent lays 1 or 7 then the round is a draw.
The value you pick isn't arbitrary. It's a representation of how attack minded or defence minded your troops are that round. The lower the value the more defensive and the higher the value the more attacking the troops are. As a result you use up more Mastery Points (skill) when you lay a higher value.
In the case where you've laid high and your opponent's value changes so that he wins the round, this represents your troops over-commiting themselves and allowing your opponent to counter-attack.
So just by each player laying a single value, all the different combat outcomes can be realised - win, lose, draw and counter-attack.
Although simple this system simulates combat well. You will learn to predict what your opponent will lay. You'll learn to observe how your opponent plays - what value he chooses and when. You will learn to read your opponent's Mastery Points and Damage level and can predict what he will play as a result. You'll also learn how you can make your opponent play values depening on your previous choices!
So just like in a fight you will be choosing your attack (your Mastery Card) based on how your opponent fights just as if you were weighing up a real enemy, reading his moves, coming to know his strengths and weaknesses and then picking your attack as a result.
